Hello everybody,

I just discovered in my CPU

model name : Intel(R) Xeon(R) CPU E5430 @ 2.66GHz

under

[r...@pcfarm-new ~]# uname -a
Linux pcfarm-new.pnpi.spb.ru 2.6.18-194.3.1.el5xen #1 SMP Fri May 7 02:05:32 EDT 2010 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux

that there is no flag 'vmx'

[r...@pcfarm-new ~]# grep vmx /proc/cpuinfo; echo $?
1

At the same time when I boot another kernel 'xen.gz-2.6.18-128.1.1.el5'
the flag 'vmx' is in place

I tested the same on different machine with different CPU
Intel(R) Core(TM)2 CPU 6400 @ 2.13GHz

and found out exactly same effect:

under kernel
[r...@pcfarm-10 ~]# uname -a
Linux pcfarm-10.pnpi.spb.ru 2.6.18-92.1.6.el5xen #1 SMP Wed Jun 25 12:56:52 EDT 2008 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux

[r...@pcfarm-10 ~]# grep vmx /proc/cpuinfo
flags : fpu tsc msr pae mce cx8 apic mtrr mca cmov pat pse36 clflush dts acpi mmx fxsr sse sse2 ss ht tm syscall nx lm constant_tsc pni monitor ds_cpl vmx est tm2 cx16 xtpr lahf_lm flags : fpu tsc msr pae mce cx8 apic mtrr mca cmov pat pse36 clflush dts acpi mmx fxsr sse sse2 ss ht tm syscall nx lm constant_tsc pni monitor ds_cpl vmx est tm2 cx16 xtpr lahf_lm

and with kernel
xen.gz-2.6.18-194.3.1.el5

the flag 'vmx' is NOT seen.

Does anybody know something about the case ?

In particular I am interesting does the kernel xen.gz-2.6.18-194.3.1.el5 use Intel VT feature as expected or does not ?

Many thanks in advance,

Andrey
