gnome-volume-control error

Hi Guys,

$ rpm -q -f gnome-volume-control
gnome-media-2.29.91-6.el6.x86_64

Everything sound wise works well on my SL6.1 x64 machine
except gnome-volume-control.  When I fire it up, I get

         "waiting for sound system to respond"

Any idea how to fix this?
