XFCE: how to clean up the trash

Hello,
 i'm not sure how to add "trash" icon to the desktop in xfce and how to
clean-up the trash?
right now i had to revert to barbarian sudo rm -rf .Trash  , but from
user's perspective it's just not acceptable. I'm sure there is an elegant
solution, but i seemed to not be able to locate it.
Please adivse.
