Byrne has a ton of sins to atone for but his take on Superman isn't
one of them.

I hated the move planets, blow out the sun, etc. Silver Age Superman.
DC has been slowly pushing Superman back in that direction and I hate it.

were all in my youthful days of comic reading. In time I came to tire
of the over-the-top storylines, and found Superman too unapproachable.
So when John Byrne redid the character in 1986, reducing his powers
and streamlining the mythos, i was very happy. I really liked the
Superman who needed to breathe, who could be stunned, even knocked
unconscious, who had to struggle to lift a tanker, let alone push the
Moon. I liked that the eleventy million types of Kryptonite were taken
away, reduced to one ring worn by Luthor.

Johnathan Kent is dead there, and I hate that too. another thing Byrne
did was give Clark both his parents, which i enjoyed immensely.
