And don't forget Warner's turn as the Cardassian torturer of Picard in the
great two-part TNG ep "Chain of Command". Remember the show? Picard, Worf, and
Crusher are sent on a mission to destroy a supposed Cardassian WMD, but it
proves to be a trap. Picard is captured and then given over to the interrogator
played by Warner. The guy sounds cultured and calm, but loves torture, has a
pain-giving device implanted in Picard, and calls him "human" instead of by his
name. He rigs up a group of lights, then asks Picard how many lights he sees.
There are four lights, he keeps trying to make Picard say there are five,
applying incredible pain when Picard refuses to comply. Success in doing so
means he's broken him. The acting in this show is superb, with Stewart and
Warner perfectly matching each other's presence and dramatic ability. (Not to
mention Ronnie Cox's Bligh-like Captain Jelico, who by the way is exactly like
my boss at my old job!) Picard is rescued just as the torturer i
s demanding one more time to know how many lights there are, and Picard seems
about to cave. But then he defiantly screams "There are four lights--four!" and
stalks off.

But later on the Enterprise, he confesses to Troi that not only would he have
lied and said there were five lights (so he could stop the torture), but there
at the end, he really did *see* five lights! Thus, a Star Trek captain was
broken, if only for an instant. I don't think i can remember any captain in
Trek before or since about which that can be said. They sure as hell wouldn't
have allowed that to happen to Kirk. Major, major kudos to the writers for the
courage to tell such a harrowing and realistic story.

Yes, he played Jack the Ripper in "Time After Time" , the flick in which
Malcolm McDowell plays inventor H.G. Wells, whose time machine is stolen by
Jack, who uses it to cause mayhem in the future. Pretty good movie, original
concept.

I love that actor. Didn’t he play Jack the Ripper or someone like that once?

Same here, he's near the top of mine list too. And course, the cartoon version
being voiced by the great voice of actor David Warner added mightily to my
liking Ra's.

It wouldn't be Murpy's comedic chops that'd make a good Riddler to me. I do'nt
want to laugh and chuckle at a Batman villain on that level. I'd rather squirm
and be uneasy, the way Nolan's Joker made me feel. But Labeouf anywhere near
the Batman film (if there is a third one) would be a disaster.
Call me crazy, I'd still like to see a way to bring back Ra's Al Ghul to settle
the battle started in Batman Begins, and to close out the series. Perhaps in
light of Bruce's new troubles and status Ra's could feel he has in in to
finally bring Bruce into the League--or simply manipulate him for a final
revenge. Talia as Bruce's love interest/betrayer could be good.

While I don't have problems with Murphy as the Riddler (he's a talented
comedian after all). I DO have some serious problems with labeouf as robin.

No. F**king. Way! I don't know what's worse: Murphy as the Riddler, or
increasingly ubiquitous and irritating Labeouf as Robin??? I like Murphy okay,
but just not seeing him as the Riddler. The only hope I can have is that Nolan
would somehow make it serious and substantial.

But Labeouf? And Robin???Tell me this is one of those early rumours that's
nothing but vapour. Please.

FUNNYMAN EDDIE MURPHY will play The Riddler in the next Batman movie,
The Sun can reveal.

The Beverly Hills Cop star, 47, has been signed up by British director
CHRISTOPHER NOLAN to reprise the role played by JIM CARREY in 1995's
Batman Forever.

The surprise move follows speculation linking Pirates of the Caribbean
star JOHNNY DEPP to the part.

The film, set for a 2010 release, is being developed under the working
title Gotham.

Execs have also signed up rising Transformers star SHIA LABEOUF, 22,
to play Robin.

CHRISTIAN BALE will return as Bruce Wayne, while MICHAEL CAINE will
again play Bruce's assistant Alfred.

I hope to Christ someone at the Sun had one too many pints. This is
be yond bad comedy.
