A brilliant, insightful, and utterly chilling statement! You summed it all up by perfectly capturing the superficiality and manipulative nature of the H'Wood system. I'm still shaking my head in bemused and begrudging acknowledgment of the scam they pulled with "Obsessed". Knowles has very few speaking lines in that movie, compared to the two other stars. She's on screen so little, that if this had been a TV movie, the credits would have read "Guest starring..." Most of her lines in the early going are things like "Oooh! You're a bad man!" (said as they make out on the floor of their new home), or "Baby, you know I want to go back to school!" Then there's some "I can't believe you did that!" to the hapless husband, "Get out!", and later, the obligatory fight. Even some of the main stuff you *think* happened in the movie--based on trailers--didn't. Masterful marketing, making me fill a bit irritated and manipulated. But hey, my wife wanted to see it, not me.
So your statement hear worries me because you're right: she can't act all that well, I think she's getting woefully overexposed, I think that her celebrity is starting to push aside more talented, better-deserving young actresses who'll never get their due, but slap her in that movie ,and you will sho' 'nuff get 'em in the seats. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Mike Street" <[email protected]> To: [email protected] Sent: Friday, May 8, 2009 8:14:12 AM GMT -05:00 US/Canada Eastern Subject: Re: [scifinoir2] Rodriguez's Barbarella Remake Is Dead I so totally agree. Rose is cute but she is not all that. Ok I'm going to go out on a limb here but if they REALLY wanted to get this picture done....Beyonce would be Barbarella. Yes she can't act...but Barbarella is not that big of a stretch and doesn't require you to know Shakespeare. All she would need is outfits and hair and a few looks at the camera and boom $30 mil opening weekend if not more.
