FWIW... I've never been a HUGE Trek fan. Enjoyed the various series and movies, but not religious about them. This movie was much the same.... was a lot of fun, and the breaks in canon from the original series didn't bother me at all. I don't chime in much on the mailing list (though I enjoy reading it) but had to throw in my thoughts on this one. Building an alternate reality for what is already an alternate reality? That kind of works for me in an odd sort of way.
Also, I like mini-skirts. But that's a whole 'nother topic.
