Keith, the series, for me, became an emotional touchstone. My reactions in a few eps are ones I wouldn't want seen in public. (Not that I mind crying in public; I've done it often enough in my life. But I wouldn't want to share the moments.)

I care not a whit for the differing styles. Still I weep in unashamed joy. Won't go to see it if it goes big screen. This will have to be a private event. Seems to be a mix of CG and traditional animation--almost as if two different trailers were spliced together. Some the the CGI work is impressive, some of it looks pretty standard (I'm still not a huge fan of the genre, at least, not at the expense of traditional animation). The traditional animation spots also look a bit weird, as if they too come from a couple of different sources. The animation style changed a couple of times. All that being said, I'm intrigued and cautiously excited. I am a huge fan of "Starblazers". Own several of the eps on tape. I was intrigued by the idea of refitting an ancient battleship as a starship. And man, I really loved how the ship was literally blown nearly to bits so often, but kept chugging along. I also dug the Shock cannons, the Reflex gun, and, as you noted, the Wave Motion Gun. Loved the Gamelon storyline with Leader Desslock, and really enjoyed the Comet Empire, especially the final showdown. I used to rush home after school to watch it, and to this day can sing the cheesy Americanized theme songs: "We're off to outer space, we're leaving Mother Earth, to save the human race--our Starblazers!..." or, " Danger lurking everywhere, but we know we've got to dare. Evil men with evil schemes--they can't destroy all our dreams!" ----- Original Message ----- From: "daikaiju66" <daikaij...@yahoo.com> To: scifinoir2@yahoogroups.com Sent: Wednesday, September 2, 2009 5:37:24 PM GMT -05:00 US/Canada Eastern Subject: [scifinoir2] Wave Motion Gun FTW!!! Here's the trailer for the new Space Crusier Yamato(aka Star Blazers) movie. Usually the mix of traditional and computer animation is a bit jarring for me but this looks really good. http://io9.com/5350661/after-seeing-this-new-star-blazers-trailer-were-definitely-off-to-outer-space http://tinyurl.com/n2daay I guess we'll see a dvd release of this sometime next year.
