I’ve seen Matheson in a lot of roles too. Including Vice President, but for
some reason I pulled up Animal House. His eyes are smiling but can be cold and
distance. That works for playing sociopaths.

Sorry to hear you're not feeling well. Are you on the mend now?
Yeah, i caught the Tim Matheson "Burn Notice" when it first aired. There have
been two or three marathons in the last year, and I saw it again there.
Matheson is an interesting character. I can barely remember that he was in
"Animal House". Actually, Phyllis and I think of him mostly as the
sleazy/creepy/evil character actor. Honestly, for years I've seen him in TV
movies and guest starring on a million series, and he almost always plays
despicable roles: child molester, sociopath killer, embezzler, assassin.
Frankly, his least disturbing roles over the years have been as the typical
cheating husband whose good looks allow him to manipulate women. He was in the
murderous husband in the Fletch movie with Chevy Chase!
I actually have a hard time thinking of a positive role Matheson has played. I
honestly think it was to do with his eyes. If you look at them, they can give
his face a kind of sinister/crazy look. That, combined with his overall good
lucks, makes directors love to cast him as the guy who draws people in only to
reveal the psycho beneath.

It's wild how actors' overall features get them cast in certain roles. The late
Jeffrey Hunter (Captain Pike) was often cited for his "magnetic steel blue
eyes". This, and the way he frowned when concentrating, got him roles where the
hero was to be a thoughtful, intense man. The eyes helped him get cast as Jesus
in a movie. Kirstie Alley does a lot of comedy, but here intense eyes and brow
have also gotten her cast as the first Vulcan Savik in the Trek movies, and
she's done her share of psycho roles too. and of course.

I’ve been sick too, so Chris and I were with you watching Burn Notice. It’s on
of our favorite shows. We actually caught an episode with Tim Matheson of
Animal House that we never saw before. I did not think that was possible. By
the way, Matheson directed that issue. That character is a monster. I hope
they bring him back

I have not been watching the Who marathon, because while I was sick last week,
I ODed on it with downloads from Netflix.

Tell Phyllis I said Happy New Year and to hang in there

never saw that, so looking forward to it. Man! I'm OD'ing on TV. My wife caught
a bad case of the flu--along with severe ear and sinus infections--when we were
in Texas during Christmas. For the past week I've been tending to her, since
she's housebound. Fortunately there's been pretty decent TV on. I watched hours
and hours of the Burn Notice marathon yesterday, until 5 this morning! Now I'm
on the Dr. Who marathon as I take down the Christmas tree, clean house, and
keep supplying my wife with hot red tea. Cartoon Network's been running good
stuff, along with new eps of Star Wars Cone Wars -which I've come to really
like--tonight. And there's always the likes of Avatar, Wolverine and the X-Men,
and Samurai jack (which I love) on too.

and I've got Coraline on DVD, which I've never watched, and there's those
unopened DVD's of The Dark Knight, 3:10 to Yuma sitting on the shelf.

You know, there's about four movies I wanted to see at the theatre during the
holidays--Avatar, It's Complicated, Frog Princess, Up in the Air--but I can't
since my wife is sick. But with the good TV, DVDs, and the likes of Hulu, I'm
not too upset about it.

And at 6 pm EST, they're starting two of my fav eps. The first is the
two-parter where the Doctor becomes a human in WWI England, and Martha must
help the now-amnesiac Doctor combat the aliens he'd been fleeing.

At 8 pm is the great ep "Blink", the one where those statue-like beings creep
up on you when you're not looking. Truly one of the scariest scifi shows I've
ever seen. Can't wait to see it again!
