One of our fav shows is on Spike now, as a multi-hour marathon. They're just
wrapping up one of the best: Spartan vs. Ninja. (Spoiler!) The Spartan won,
primarily because the shield he used is such a devastating defensive/offensive
weapon. The Ninja just couldn't find a weapon to breach it. Also, the Spartan's
fitness level was high for his size, so his speed was sufficient to hold the
agile Ninja at bay. However, watching the fight again, I note that the
simulation forces the combatants to close quarters and fight in that manner.
They have to use the weaponry tested, and do so in one pitched battle. As good
as the Spartans were, I wonder if the Ninja could or would have used his
quickness and agility to constantly harry the Spartan, finally wearing him down
enough so the Ninja could close in for a kill? Of course, there's danger to
that: the Spartans were some of the most fit warriors in history. They trained
to fight on throughout pain, crippling injury, and exhaustion. I wonder if the
Ninja could actually outlast the Spartan, or if the latter's endurance would
equal or exceed the Ninja's? I know the Ninja trained in stealth and quick
kills. Could they keep up a high-intensity fight long enough to wear down the
tough Spartans?
