I believe because although sci fi sells well it's still not main stream and  
store owners only prominently feature books they believe will not only sell 
but  the public wants. Outside of sci fi lovers who knows who Octavia Butler 
was. Not  many African Americans even know who she is so there was no ethnic 
angle to  push.
