Hi Roland, Our experience with the GSOC is that it is very important for the student to be already well versed with the contribution workflow and the codebase to be able to both write a good proposal and lead it to success. A proposal written without such experience is likely to be ill-matched to realistic goals given the student's abilities and the demands of scikit-learn.
