Did you ever try wyoEditor built in unicode mode? Or you might try the sample editor in wxScintilla. I've never used it this way but it should work.
actually the on-line version does not crash but I fear that it does not only because there are not asserts, that the memory accessed during the isalnum/isdigit... functions does not cause troubles but not because it is OK.

I just made a simple test on Windows and it sees to work with "int é = 1;" albeit I don't know if the compiler does. Or do you have problems with GTK+?
no just on windows (unicode build) and in _debug_ build, in release it does not complain nor crashes... it will just silently do dumb things (probably randomly reporting that such char is a letter/a digit...) :( on GTK it does not crash either but does it do intellignet things or there just no checks...
