If you could set at start, either UTF-8 or UTF-16 then hopefully this
would also apply to the attribute byte.

I personally would love more attribute bits to play with!

So modes of 8+8 (the current 8-bit chr + 8 bit attribute) or 16+16
(UTF-16 and 16-bit attribute) get my vote.
