Ok, I'm slowly convincing myself that the gtk win32 code has bugs (surprise, surprise) so the solution may be to restore the code. But, keep in mind sometimes things work in fragile ways and that a seemingly correct change can break things. I wish this weren't the case, but it is ;).

From what I understand about the gdk code is the select data's type field is set to the "DROPFILES_DND" atom, at least in gtk 2.6.10. I don't have the ability to easily test newer versions of gtk, but it wouldn't surprise me if this hasn't changed. BTW, this is about as far as I can investigate this right now.
