Its like deciding that word That's not correct. The user has the same control in each case. Copying the selection can be forced by pressing CTRL. So, the matter is only to change the default behaviour and again, adding a message or a property (for me it doesn't matter which one) should not be a problem but improves Scintilla and make it more flexible IMO.
