I'm not using any lexers not included in Scintilla. On OpenBSD, Scintilla is built as a shared library, which SciTE uses. I can change that if necessary, but that is the way it was done in previous versions. The Makefile I'm using is based on the one in OpenBSD's ports, which was for version 1.54.
Possibly the static initializers of the LexerModule objects are being run twice or more leading to the first constructed lexer which got a NULL in its next field first time through getting the last lexer second time through completing the cycle.
