This is probably caused by an upgrade of Pango, the international text library used by GTK+/GNOME. The bug was reported for Anjuta here http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=311846 Naba from the Anjuta project produced a patch which is available from http://mailman.lyra.org/pipermail/scintilla-interest/2005-August/006427.html Unfortunately this causes problems as mentioned later on that thread. You could try applying the patch as it may be OK for you.
