Looks like a case of different selection.alpha default settings. selection.back is modified by selection.alpha Maybe Sc1 has a default setting of around 40?
Both Sc1 and SciTE have a default selection.alpha of 30. This is set in SciTEGlobal.properties for SciTE and inside the embedded properties resource for Sc1.
