First there is on problem with en_AU.

I may end up to do this

   SimpleDateFormat localFormat = new SimpleDateFormat();
   //work around for all en_US compatible locales

   if (if ( "M/d/yy h:mm a".equals(localFomart.toLocalizedPattern() ) 
   {
       localFormat = new SimpleDateFormat(theExpectedFormat)
   }

Ugly eh?
