I think some performance-oriented shops might be able to do it 
cheaper, since they do that type of work all the time.  However, it's 
not way out of line.  That probably figures as a ten-hour job, which 
is a lot of time, but I doubt I could do it faster without a lot of 
practice.  I don't recall where you live, but you might try calling 
places that specialize in building/rebuilding performance motors, 
such as Houston Performance or Apex.  They can probably get the 
job done cheaper.  I hope this helps.
