Derek - I wonder if you know a different version of the Rakes of Kildare. I know of the tune but don't play it. I just looked it up in both Ryan's and O'Neill's collections. The tunes written out there are quite different than the one I learned from Brenda. Though I must admit there's one measure that sounds vaguely familiar. Any other guesses?
