I was in the mood for a headache last night so I
recompiled my kernel, in the doing, I also enabled the
frame buffer using the matrox driver. First reboot it
was fine, console scrolled up at 800x600 @ 32bit, and
the cute little penguin logo was fine.

Next reboot, and I swear I didnt change any more
lilo.conf settings, booted up, and I got the cute
little pengiun logo, but no text scrolling up, a mini
little cursor moved accross the screen at the bottom
but didnt actually leave any text.

It booted up completely so i logged in started X and X
started ok, then when i switched back to console, ctrl
alt f1 everything was fine.

Any ideas why? At the moment i'm putting it down to
buggy matrox G100 bios. but before i go hunting for a
dos disk.

Its certainly worth compiling fb support in if its not
already present, it makes a really big difference to
your console. In fact its worth it for the cute
penguin logo alone :)

Cheers

David

P.S how did the beer festival go?
