Is it not the inet addr itself that is wrong?
I thought 192.168 addresses were all local. In which
case Graeme you're not being assigned a proper internet
address by Telewest.
Here's the output of "ifconfig eth0" on my machine:
eth0 Link encap:Ethernet HWaddr 00:00:21:C9:1B:A8
inet addr:62.255.160.5 Bcast:255.255.255.255 Mask:255.255.255.0
UP BROADCAST NOTRAILERS RUNNING MTU:1500 Metric:1
RX packets:2506 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 frame:0
TX packets:2687 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 carrier:0
collisions:16 txqueuelen:100
Interrupt:10 Base address:0xe400
My Bcast is the same as yours, but that inet addr is what I'm getting
from cabletel. I have another ethernet card on my machine, which connects
to my home lan. Its config is:
eth1 Link encap:Ethernet HWaddr 00:A0:CC:65:0E:2F
inet addr:192.168.0.1 Bcast:192.168.0.255 Mask:255.255.255.0
UP BROADCAST RUNNING MULTICAST MTU:1500 Metric:1
RX packets:7 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 frame:0
TX packets:3 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 carrier:0
collisions:0 txqueuelen:100
Interrupt:9 Base address:0xe000
Which is more like yours (i.e. with a local IP no. as the inet addr).
So, perhaps dhcp hasn't been setup correctly?
What do you get if you run "ifconfig eth0" after first running
(as root) "/sbin/dhcpcd" ?
