Shock, horror, gasp at the guys they send out to do Pooter repairs these
days.

This is about as off topic as an on topic email can get(?!?)

***off topic***
As many of you already know I had ADSL installed last month - I did get the
USB modem and NAT working under RH7.0 but it was a bit too unreliable -
having to reboot the server and physically unplug the modem to reconnect was
too much hassle, added to the fact that pppd would hang if I sent out any
file larger than 200Mb.

Anyways - long and short is that I have a 24/7 connection. I also have a
small furry creature of the hamster species that lives in captivity in my
front room.

My warped mind seems to think that it would be humorous/cool to set up a web
cam of my hamster's cage. (I have convinced the girl friend of this in order
to obtain the PO to procure a web cam, I want one - they are cool little
toys).

***on topic***
So I'm in the market to buy a web cam - I want one that works under Linux,
preferably USB and able to do the following.

1) Produce a standard web cam type page under apache (30 sec still
updating). Can I make the page SSL?
2) Stream live video as an .mpg or other stream. That can be viewed
using both Linux and winblows apps.

I don't want to spend too much cash as I'm only a poor [IT
Consultant|student of life]. 200GBP would be my max.

Has anyone done this before?

As usual, any help will gratefully appreciated.

Rgds,

Ian
