I'm not quite with you here... You have a dual-boot machine, and want to
use the cable modem with both OS's, am I right?
All you need to do is use DHCP on both Linux and W98. You don't need VMware
(but if you're using it, it gives the OS running under it DHCP anyway).
All this assumes a standard ethernet cable modem, of course... NTL's
Motorola modems bind to the MAC address of the ethernet card you use, and
won't release it until their DHCP lease runs out (about 4 hours).
Hope this helps a bit,
Gordon

Subject: [scottish] vmware and cable modem
Is it possible to use vmware for linux and windows and have both OS use a
cable modem?
I dual boot with Linux/win98 at home and while I use both, my wife uses
win98 so I need both
OS to access the internet.
Would I have to issue a DHCP request when I require the guest OS to access
the net or must I
set up another linux box attached to the cable modem and set my pc up as a
LAN host with linux and win98
each having a dedicated IP address on the LAN?
