Err. Right. So it would appear to provide some sort of NAT and/or
transparent proxy. The "client" software may simply be pulling in the
address of the DNS server from the gateway box or it may be doing an
infintie number of other things (like re-routing the outgoing connections
to different ports / over/ through other protocols). If they won't tell you
how it works then trying to reverse engineer it could take a very long time.
Getting NT to talk to 2 seperate network cards is always good for a laugh.

So you couldn't connect/ping anything from the linux box either by name or
IP address? If the ip address thing works, then run winipcfg to get the
address of the nameservers. Note that even if you get your address by DHCP
the DNS servers probably won't change very often.

Anything which _doesn't_ require "client" software. AIR there are a couple
of good shareware internet connection "sharers" for Windows. But the
solution I'd go for is to hook up your Linux box to your cable modem and
run Squid on it. You can set up proxies or port farwarders easily for any
other services - although FTP, real audio and VOIP can be a bit tricky.
