What are the errors?

If its something like:

    {long gcc command}
tcpdump.c:65:18: pcap.h: No such file or directory
make: *** [tcpdump.o] Error 1

its because you've not got libpcap installed.

Other than that, it compiled ok for me (7.0-alpha, 7.0-i386)

Cheers,

Paul.
