Subject: [scottish] Installation Difficulties

I am having problems getting installations to work!! It brings up the CD
boot: prompt fine, but then the screen goes blank and the CD spins and
sometimes the harddrive light flashes, but nothing happens.

[Here's the history:]
Cyrix 300 chip, now with 256Mb RAM, but with 4Mb shared RAM with the SiS
5597/8 onboard video chip :( The problem has only started occuring since I
upgraded the memory, but I think this is due to now having enough RAM to
enter a graphical install. Which would be nice. Have tried booting install
disks from SuSE 6.3, SuSE 7.0, SuSE 7.1 and Mandrake 7.2. None work. Tried
to fool it into thinking I had less memory, in case it was having problems
with the shared memory, so tried booting with a 'linux mem=252M' paramter
line, but that didn't work. SuSE specifically mentions the video card on
the box, so it is supported. Anybody got any ideas?
