Hi Vivek, I'm glad to hear you're interested in participating in GSOC.
I think a good starting point would be to get familiar with Scrapyd code<http://doc.scrapy.org/en/latest/topics/scrapyd.html>. As you may or may not know, Scrapyd is on a different git repo than Scrapy and it's an application to run scrapy spiders, which doesn't share any code with Scrapy -the framework- itself. The good thing is that the codebase is smaller and simpler, which softens the learning curve. I'd also suggest to look at open issues <https://github.com/scrapy/scrapyd/issues>, see what are the most requested/asked/voted topics, and maybe take a simple one to implement (it doesn't need to be UI-related, it could be API or something else). This should give you an idea of the overall process that will be involved if you get into the GSOC program.
