Hi everyone, As some of you may have figured out from the recent messages on this list, Scrapy is applying for this year's GSoC (May 19. -- August 22.) It's pretty exciting as it's a first for Scrapy and I'm sure great things will come out of it from and for the community! GSoC 2014 FAQ page is at http://www.google-melange.com/gsoc/document/show/gsoc_program/google/gsoc2014/help_page
Scrapy is applying independently as a mentoring organization, but Python Software Foundation has kindly accepted having Scrapy under their umbrella if our application gets rejected (it means less slots for students though). We'll know on Feb 24. Applications from students start on March 10 and ends on March 21. (see http://www.google-melange.com/document/show/gsoc_program/google/gsoc2014/help_page#4._How_does_a_student_apply ) Student developers can find a list of project ideas on Scrapy's wiki on Github: https://github.com/scrapy/scrapy/wiki/GSoC-2014-Ideas Keep in mind that this list is curated by Scrapy core developers and maintainers, but students can propose another idea. If you want to apply for GSoC to work on Scrapy or some companion tool like scrapely or splash, you don't have to wait until the student application period starts. Please introduce yourself here on scrapy-users and discuss one of the proposed ideas or your very own idea. If you need further clarifications or to discuss something that doesn't quite fit the mailing list, feel free to talk to the mentors (contact details at https://github.com/scrapy/scrapy/wiki/GSoC-2014-Mentors) PSF also has a nice guide at https://wiki.python.org/moin/SummerOfCode/2014 We love to hear your proposals! Let's make it a successful GSoC for Scrapy! /Paul. -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "scrapy-users" group.
