Follow-up Comment #1, bug #55138 (project screen):
Indeed, this is something that I had set out to fix a number of years back. I
did a bunch of refactoring to clean up the hardstatus code, but didn't have
time to get back to work on the UTF-8 support, and don't anticipate to have
the time to do so any time soon.
Screen assumes each character is one byte.
I would be grateful if someone else was able to work on this.
