For me, it does not dump core. For me, when this happens, that pty is hung for 15-20 minutes and eventually unjams itself with no loss of data. (only a loss of time.) I can switch to another screen and continue to work, I can switch back and forth to the hung screen checking if it's unjammed. Nothing I have found I can do unjams it, only time. Very odd.
