Normally when you detach from a screen session, you can use `screen -r' to resume it. But if the screen session has not been detached yet (that is---a terminal is still viewing it), then `-r' will not work. In that case, you use `-x', which will result in two terminals viewing the same screen session (which is what it means by "multi display mode"). For example, I may leave a screen session attached at work, but later SSH into the machine. Since I never detached from the session, I must use `-x'.
