Step 1
Is the PCI serial controller listed in with the sound and video devices
if not and it is under its on listing then all you will have to do is this
Double click on that PCI Serial controler then click reinstall driver
chose let windows search for a driver and on the next screen chose
to select location and put in your modem driver and brows for it when you
find it select it then OK all the way it will not find it on the
windows 98 disk .
step2
if it is listed under the sound and video then this is
only part of your modem it would be the voice like a wave device for voice
modem .if this is the case then part of you modem drivers are still in your
system and windows will not find it why is that it thingks it is still there
check in the add and remove and make shure your modem drivers are not listed
if they are remove them and then go in to controll panell and cleck into
modem and if you medem is listed uninstall it
without rebooting and then DO Step one and you will have a working
modem.
