Grab your Phillips, it's...
The Latest from The Screwdriver List!
Sandeep,
Looks decent, but I think that you could get a little hotter system for
close to the same price. I went this way:
Motherboard: Asus A7V P133 motherboard $155 (several months ago,
probably cheaper now)
CPU: AMD Athlon Tbird 266FSB-1GHz. $139.95 w/shipping (from CompU Plus)
Hard drive: Maxtor Diamond Max 45Gb. ATA/100 w/ATA-100 controller card
$115 (I didn't need the controller card, but by buying the two
components there was a $50 rebate from the original $150 price)
Video card: Asus V7700 GForce2 GTS Pure, nVidia chipset, 32Mb. $149
(went for this since I'm building such a hot system, I wanted to see
some game performance)
Case: Enlight 7237 OM-3 $37
Power supply: Sparkle 300W $40
Sound: SB 128: $40
RAM: 256Mb. PC-133 $95
SCSI: Adaptec AHA-2920 $40 (to run my old PlexWriter 8/20 CD-R and my
scanner)
Other components, like the modem, CD-ROM, CD-R and floppy, I'm taking
out of my current box which is a P233MMX and sorely in need of
retirement. Since I've been accumulating these components over several
months, the prices are a little high compared to what they can be had
for today. My main concern though was the motherboard, CPU, hard drive,
and video card. Still haven't built the box--waiting for the video card.
Including the Logitech Wireless Trackman Wheel mouse, extra serial card,
and NIC, my cost was $900. If I would have waited on the RAM and
motherboard, I probably could have gotten it done for closed to $850.
In the final analysis, to the end user, I don't think there will be much
perceived difference in performance.
Good luck,
Neal
