Determining the width of a given string in a given font is a known issue - I've been meaning to have a go at writing a function to do it for ages, but haven't yet had the time to read the (huge) amount of core Scribus code required to figure out where and how to implement it. If by determining the size of a picture you mean getting the pixel dimensions or the suggested width/height/resolution of the actual image, that's a good point. It would be useful in the scripter ... just a matter of time to code it. -- Craig Ringer
