Each distribution is "best" for a particular individual. Otherwise, they're all equal. My experience is that after seven years with Red Hat (starting with 4.0 or 4.1, I forget which), I've moved to Slackware. What convinced me is the recommendations of professional SysAdmins who know that I use my machines in production mode and Slackware is far enough back from the bleeding edge that I can work reliably and securely.
