Thast's exactly the problem: all of the browswers are tying to plya the file, and display a 'cd player' button set; rather than the desired behaviour. I'd be happy if somewhere there was a display of the correct path. Some distro sites provide the correct URL to the file in the event there is some problem with the users browser. I use that link to feed a console wget command, since that is so much faster for downloading. For now, the wget debug output below gave me the data I needed, and I now have the working program.
