I myself would not be considering Scribus as serious alternative to InDesign
or PageMaker if it didn't have this open XML (*.sla) format. InDesign (like MS$)
also claims to have such a XML format but it is difficult do anything with the
junk
they give out. Inkscape/Xara will also become more popular in the days to come
because
of the open standards they follow. What do I do with a file like *.doc or *.ind
if it
became corrupt and the application refuses to open? Redo it from scratch?
RTF and MIF (format of frame maker) were popular for some time, but once they
started
changing the specs and the architecture it became difficult for
open source developers (for Jade, OpenJade etc..).
