The file->open feature for PDF is confusing. It's supposed to create a new Scribus document and import the file, but it currently doesn't seem to work for many people. More importantly, it won't do what you want. It can't edit a PDF in the style of Adobe Acrobat; rather, it's the same as converting to EPS and importing as vectors. If you want to fill form fields in existing PDFs, I think some other tools have been discussed here for that. Check the archives. -- Craig Ringer
