You can create vector graphics in Inkscape/Scribus and then import the same into Gimp as "Paths" which you can then bend/stretch the way you like it, convert the path into a selection when you have achieved your desired look, insert a selection-boundary and fill that border with a gradient fill. Cutting it short, do vectors in Scribus/Inkscape and the gradient stuff you are talking about in Gimp after importing the vector stuff in a "Paths" form. -- Best regards, Asif
