I use Scribus on both platforms without any problems. I often start working on one platform, and then finish in another. I have had no problems with either Adobe Reader or Foxit, and when I have my work printed, Staples has no problem printing from the PDF I enclose on the CD.
Have you, or your friends, installed Ghostscript?
