No, it is not doing the right thing. Scribus does not have the ability to flatten transparency for PostScript or for PDF <= 1.3, neither of which support it. Unless something changed quite recently, the transparency attribute is ignored. Hopefully moving to a Cairo renderer will permit flattening to be performed at some point in the 1.3.x series. The only real workaround is to output PDF 1.4 or greater and print from Adobe Reader or a similar app. Scribus's PDF output is much better than it's PostScript output anyway. -- Craig Ringer
