I have tried to use it this way in the past, but only because Microsoft Office was not installed on the computer I was using. Though frustrating initially, after one gets the hang of it, it proves to be more productive than Microsoft Office, especially if you're working on a document that involves pictures - a sort of creative paper. I've been using scribus ever since when I'm embarking on a new "creative" paper. In my opinion, it definitely gives it an edge.
