I typically pay at least $100, and usually quite a bit more, for a professional typeface. And frankly I think that's a bargain if it really is a professional, complete typeface. $100 typefaces tend to be pretty awful. But then, these days when it comes to any part of the publishing process "cheap" seems to matter so much more than "good". I cringe when I see how most commercial books are typeset these days.
