I think the last time I used it was with approximately the same version as you have. As I recall, it worked the same way you describe - I entered the entire code, including the checksum, and it created the barcode correctly. You may be right that there have been some bad changes. If I wasn't so swamped right now I'd run off to look online at the changes between your version and RC3. Haven't got time right now.
