pstops -w148mm -h210mm "4:0+2(1w,0),3+1(1w,0)" source.ps imposed.ps

It imposes is to a landscape page, probably you may want to rotate pages 
counterclockwise.

The second sample is done this way:

psbook source.ps | psnup -l -Pa5 -pa4 -2 > imposed.ps

And you have imposed your a5 portrait document.
Now convert it to pdf and print.
