How's this for a wacky idea? To try and cut down on the repeated "opening MS Publisher file" questions and help new users straight away you have either: 1) a splash screen on first time use that has some text or a link labelled "MS Publisher files" and / or 2) in the file open dialog you have a tab button for "MS Publisher" when also has some text or a link. or even 3) allow them to select a publisher file and when they click OK to open it they are confronted with text or link
The text or link can display short prose on MS Publisher files are proprietary and Microsoft does not share the file format as an open standard etc. etc. and a link to the wiki for more information on possible workarounds? K.
