There is nothing at all wrong with being compulsive about having the absolutely most recent version of a program. In fact, it helps developers find the latest bugs. But that does not describe me. In the present case my gut tells me the problem is something odd with my computer rather than a bug in Scribus. Fedora is, after all, Redhat's test platform and about as cutting edge as major distros get. And I am not a programmer. I tried programming with Visual Basic a number of years ago. It frustrated the hell out of me: VB: Undefined variable. Me: So define it already. Like I care! I'm so not into programming that I even hate the thought of trying to figure out TeX, because I know it will frustrate me. I know you want to exhort me to do nightly builds as you do, but it's not gonna happen, so save your breath, er, keyboard. I still love you, though.
